Safe & Healthy Baby Bath

Tips for Safe and Healthy Baby Bath

Start giving your baby a sponge bath as soon as his umbilical cord falls. Sometimes, baby’s first bath is very stressful. There is high possibility that you may feel as a bad parent for making your baby crying. You may skip this feeling by making your newborn baby bath with you. Therefore, in order to overcome this stress and fear, there are some tips that you should keep in mind while bathing your baby:

  • Do not use standard bath. During this kind of bath, you have to lean or kneel uneasily on your baby and thus you are not able to control his movement. Rather use a bath bed or small plastic bathtub. It is a convenient way as mother can soap their baby using both the hands without worrying of holding a baby with one hand and pouring a mug of water with another hand.

  • Bath your baby when he is awake. Schedule your baby’s bath for noon before feeding. Make sure that you do not bathe your baby after feeding as it may lead to vomiting. You can also bath him in the evening but ensure that you keep your newborn baby warm and put him into bed to avoid the exposure to cold.
  • Gently massage your baby. Do not use any massage oils in the first two or three weeks because there is high possibility that they may affect your baby’s soft and delicate skin.

  • Make sure that you wash your baby’s hair and face at the end. If you clean your baby’s hair and face at the end, you can easily dry, feed and dress him without worrying about washing his rest of the body.
  • Use a branded talcum powder, especially made for babies and apply the powder by using cloth piece or powder puff. Apply the powder carefully avoiding sensitive areas like eyes, nose, genitals and mouth.

  • Avoid applying kohl to your baby’s eye.
  • Avoid using lotions and creams on rashes. Some baby’s have sensitive skin and may develop infantile eczema, rashes or baby acne. Do not use lotions and creams on irritated skin.

  • When bathing your baby, do not leave him unsupervised even for a second. Hearing a phone or doorbell ring, do not leave your child in a bathtub because a newborn baby can drown in an inch of water in less than a minute. Rather, scoop him in a towel and take along with you.

Therefore, by following the above listed tips you can ensure your child a healthy and safe bath. Let your child enjoy during his bath.
