Home-Birth

Prepare for Home-Birth with a Well-Equipped Kit

Motherhood is an important event in every woman’s life and many of them prefer giving birth to their babies in the secured privacy of their home rather than in the hospital. However, careful arrangements have to be made well before the time of delivery, so that the would-be mother can be absolutely sure that she would have everything by her reach, even if the labor starts a bit earlier. Certain things are absolutely essential during and just after the delivery, and it would be prudent to order a professional home-birth kit, rather than hunting for all the components alone, and accidentally missing out on a few items, which you may not notice till the last minute.

A home-birth kit usually consists of the items that are required during and after the delivery. They may seem commonplace items like wraps, napkins, gloves and towels, which may make you wonder that why order all this with extra expense to bear, when you have nearly all of them at your disposal. The items in the kit are sterilized and disinfected and a good kit will meet all the medical requirements, something that cannot be achieved at home. Hygiene and care are of utmost importance at this stage so it is best to order a customized kit.

On the arrival of a kit, check whether it has all the following items inside it:

  • 1 Footprinter
  • 2 Cord Clamps
  • 2 Baby hats
  • 2 Plastic back sheets
  • 24 Underpads, standard large
  • 1 16 oz. Alcohol bottle
  • 1 Pkg Cotton Balls
  • 1 Peri Bottle
  • 12 Gauze 4x4 2/Pk
  • 6 Lube Packs
  • 1 2.5 Bulb Syringe
  • 1 Oral Thermometer
  • 2 Povidone Solutions, 4 oz.
  • 12 Sanitary napkins, Maternity Size
  • 1 Standard Mesh Pant
  • 12 Incontinent Sanitary Napkins
  • 1 Peri Massage Oil
  • 1 1 oz Lanolin
  • 4 Gloves, Pair, Size Small
  • 4 Gloves, Single, Size Small

Various home-kit suppliers may have different quantities and variations of the same above-mentioned items, but in general these are the standard requirements of any home-birth kit.

  • Water Birth: Another very popular method of home delivery is water birth. Portable hot water pool is installed in the house and filled with lukewarm water to assist in the delivery of the child. This is very relaxing as the hot water eases and soothes the tender muscles and reduces the stress causes by the labor. The temperature of the water has to be regulated according the comfort of the mother. It is best not to stay in the water for long after the delivery, as the baby may get cold. A home birth kit proves absolutely essential as it has all the items to cleanse and wrap the baby snuggly. The pool should be checked beforehand for any leakages and constant hot water supply should also be seen too.
